Off-road excursion in jeep to Park of Etna

A short but detailed tour, on 4X4 off-road four wheel drive car,  in just half-day it  can show you a lot of locations. It will be an highlight of your travel in Sicily.

First we go to a interesting visit in a Volcanological Museum, located in Nicolosi Town. There you can see and understand the morphology and geology of Etna volcano and its surroundings, using even interactive models and video support.
Then we continue to go toward the Etna passing to several places rich of unique vegetations, lava rocks and ancient lava flows of several ages. We begin to see the highest part our Volcano in front of us and the Ionio sea and Catania City with its bay right under us. Of course we stop more than once, so you can take spectacular photos and video. Finally we reach the famous Rifugio Sapienza where we may see and walk around the Crateri Silvestri, whose shape is similar to the Summit Craters . We can also see the theatre of 2001 and 2002 eruption when the magma almost destroyed everything.

The panorama is great and unique, mixing black of Lava, green, pink , violet, blue of vegetations. The huge Ginestre of Etna ( Genista Aetnensis ) with their yellow and perfumed flowers will complete the picture. Kilometers above and under us the blue of the sky and sea will amaze you! Half Sicily will be for  the pleasure for our eyes and camera.

After a calm and easy trekking, suitable and adaptable to anyone, we take our car and go to another place: a Lava Cave, a tube, a tunnel inside the Volcano. We enter inside it with helmets add lamps for discovered the way the lava flow formed this fantastic gallery.

Next we go to observe, from the Serra del Salifizio cliff, the so called Valle del Bove, a Valley of  Ox. It’s a ancient caldera created in part by the crash of others Volcanic System called Trifoglietto and Monte Calanna.
At last we go to have a nice tasting of typical Etna’s food, such a olive oil, bread, dry tomato and more. We drink Etna’s wine as well:  Nero D’avola, Nerello Mascalese, Inzolia. The dessert wine, such an Almond Wine and Malvasia and several kind of  honey will be our happy ending.
