• Pick-up from your holiday residence
• A brief but informative e revealing visit to a Volcanologic Museum in Nicolosi will follow, which will offer the chance of learning about the morphology and the characteristics of the volcanic environment that will be visited soon afterwards, with the aid of interactive media.
• Start in earnest of the ascent towards the highest reachable part of Mount Etna, during which it will be possible to observe the past lava relics of a massive lava flow that, as a result of the 1991 – 1993 eruption, overflew the ‘Calanna’ valley and threatened to destroy the dwellings of the town of Zafferana Etnea.
• Intriguing and stimulating walk or ‘Ciaspolata’ (basically snowshoeing )depending on presence or absence of snow, during which it is possible to come across and observe ancient and recently-formed craters and other fascinating volcanic features unique to the place all the while breathing the purest, crystal-clear air and observing the whole Ionic coastline from above.
• And finally, a pleasurable interlude, during the descent, at a family-run delicatessen, which includes a honey-extraction facility, for a chance to sample a varied and delicious selection of wines, extra-virgin olive oils, pickled olives and artichokes, sauces and many other products typical of the Etna area.
