Sicily is an island. Like all islands Sicily maintains its peculiar identity; and yet at the same time....it doesn’t. Its position at the centre of the Mediterranean Sea, its all-inclusive territory offering a volcano with snowy declivities during winter, luscious mountains, rivers and fertile hills as well as sun-drenched sandy beaches and pebbly ones, and volcanic jagged bays seem to have been able to allure a variety of civilisations throughout the centuries. The Sicilian personality and character forged within the crucible of such rich diversity and shaped by the mould of successive dominations is hesitant and a bit diffident at times, theatrical and flamboyant at others. But Sicilian people are unable to avoid wearing their hearts on their sleeves and are able of showing great generosity toward those who approach them with a sincere and open heart. Try asking for directions to reach the central station and they will most likely take you there! Wave your hand to a group of Sicilians having lunch in their garden offering a big smile and they will invite you to lunch.....just make sure you don’t leave anything on your plate!

Because of its diverse range of environments, the Sicilian territory is able to provide a habitat to a surprisingly varied number of ecosystems. In particular, the Park of Etna offer us the chance to come across and observe particular endemic species of wild animals, now accustomed to people, that would normally shy away from human presence. The preservation of natural habitats and of its biodiversity in Sicily in general and of the natural Parks of Etna and of the Nebrodi Mountains in particular, has from many years now been fostered by many public and political initiatives. And it is thanks to these concerted efforts that many animal species of insects and plants some of which were on the brink of extinction have started to thrive once again.
